A hospital is being constructed by the Associazione Bambino Gesu del Cairo Onlus, a non-profit entity organized and existing under the laws of Italy. The Hospital shall provide medical and healthcare to under-privileged children and pregnant women in the New Administrative Capital of the Republic of Egypt.
The initiative of the Bambino Gesu Women’s and Children’s Hospital draws its origin from the desire to guarantee every child basic medical care and advanced medical care for all those who need it and to offer accompaniment and care to future mothers in the Egyptian context, characterized by a continuous growing demographic trend - albeit lower than in the past - by a high birth rate and a high neonatal, infant and maternal mortality rate. These situations are related, as reported in a 2017 UNICEF study , to a series of preventable causes related to the presence of various pathologies (pneumonia, diarrhea, anemias), to inadequate hygiene, to absence for future mothers to take adequate prenatal care or birth assistance. (1)
The starting point for the planning of the Child Jesus Women's and Children's Hospital is also connected to the ongoing construction of another charitable initiative also by the Coptic Catholic Church of Egypt, that is the Oasi of Pietà Orphanage - which is located in the “New Administrative Capital”. It is designed to offer children in need a more suitable alternative, to help them grow in a healthy way, to protect them from any kind of abuse, abandonment, mistreatment and exploitation, providing a serene environment and a dignified family for them to grow in. It will also work to offer them education, from the basic and upper school level up to the university level, and even beyond, together with training courses and together with adequate health care. Therefore, starting from the initial assumptions and from the need to ensure health care to the children of the Orphanage, the planning of this pediatric health facility began. The Bambino Gesù of Cairo is therefore conceived to be an excellent structure for the services provided, for the high quality level of the same according to very specific standards, namely: of centrality in the provision of care for the sick child; humanization of care; respect for ethnic, cultural, religious and social differences; the continuous improvement of the health services provided, guaranteeing for infants, children and future mothers the right to health, which are the right to access medical health services and the right to free care for the most deprived.
It will be a structure of excellence, thanks to the close and continuous relationship that the Bambino Gesù Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Cairo will have with the “Bambino Gesù” Pediatric Hospital in Rome, an internationally renowned pediatric hospital.
The Bambino Gesù Women’s and Children’s Hospital will in fact be under the supervision of the “Bambino Gesù” Pediatric Hospital in Rome with which a memorandum of understanding will be signed. This will then enable their collaboration in the field of medical assistance and continuing specialist medical training and clinic.
